Going away party

My friend and colleague, Mayra, is leaving our division for a similar position still within the university; it's different in that it's closer to her home and it pays more - how can you say no? The folx that work with her directly are super bummed she's leaving and so am I not only because she's a fabulous woman but also because she always laughs at m
y jokes, bless her little cotton socks! Mayra is wearing the red blouse.

Food catered by Pancho's on Geary Street. Mayra loves Panchos.
Oh, and yes those are lychees on the table. Lychee fruit frightens me.

Gorgeous day for Mayra's last day. Looking East towards downtown San Francisco, aka the Financial District.

Buddha and the Futon

Here are the pictures of the Buddha found on top of the basurero over the weekend.
I think he's going to live on my altar after all.

Existing light Buddha

Sepia toned Buddha

Sitting in the dark with dragonfly Buddha

Oh, and this is the new futon cover with new pillows, Rafael's 5 string bass in the background. Art supplies under the futon; storage is a luxury.

San Francisco Buddha Baby

I was thinking that I wanted to get a Buddha so he could sit amongst the plants I have in the stairwell leading to our apartment, "A Buddha or a garden gnome" would be grand I thought and put the wish on the back burner in my head. Right outside our apartment unknown spirits, entities, faeries, ex-pack rats, love to deposit a wide variety of items on top of the city trash can that resides there. On any given day you can find cans of soup, shoes, books, cds, coffee pots, etc on that trash can.

Yesterday, there was a brown box sitting a top the tc, so I took a peek and low and behold there was a small porcelain smiling Buddha! He had to be welcomed into the building, so I sat him underneath my China doll plant (which sits in a
cauldron, yeah!) and took a picture of him. Now the picture isn't that great because the hallway was hella dark and I couldn't see a dang thing; soooooo I need to actually purify Buddha and make a nice little setting for him, after that I'll take another picture of him, k?

Over the weekend I went to have my brows done at Studio Kaki, Katherine runs the place and she's brilliant! I took a walk on Union Street which was having it's sidewalk sale event; this translates to being able to buy things that were originally going for $159 for $99! Oh, how I laughed and laughed!

I'd like to know who buys rubber flip flops for $79 because I'd like to sell them one of my paintings for 5 grand, no, really I would.

Nice architecture surrounding Union Street.

Princess Scherezad Barbie's house.

Lion fountain surrounded by lovely bougainvillea.

Summer in San Francisco

Brrrrr!

That's what yesterday morning looked like and it pretty much stayed like that all day.

This morning is different, the sun's out and it's luverly.
The picture below was taken through one of the windows of one of my boss' office.

Betcha if goes back to foggy before the weekend!

San Franicsco AIDS walk

Last Sunday was the AIDS walk, I had many friends as "walkers" this year and that's where my money went. I've participated once and it wasn't a good experience thanks to the management of my then place of employment who were control freaks although they claimed otherwise. But that's neither here not there (I just like to get in a good moan), the important thing is: AIDS Walk San Francisco has raised nearly $65 million since it began more than 20 years ago. Kudos to all the walkers, organizers, donors and supporters!!

Arriving in the mail...

...is this lovely futon cover. See, we were trying to decide what to do with the living room space: get rid of the futon? Get rid of the couch? Get rid of both and start from scratch? Well, we decided to keep the futon and buy a new cover for it, get rid of the couch (11 years old - it's time, old friend) and buy a couple of recliners or soft comfy reading chairs. First step: the futon cover.

My mutant carnie toe

In 2005 I broke my 3rd toe on my right foot and of course had some x-rays done. You know how in comic books 9 times out of 10 anytime there are x-rays involved something goes all wonky? Well, ever since those x-rays the toe next to my big toe has been growing. Only one of my friends, Trishy, believed me everyone else just laughed and laughed...
On Sunday past I was on the deck with R and I plopped my right foot on his lap and HOLY CRAP! The second toe has now passed my big toe in length! WTF? Is this possible? Am I going to have to buy 2 pairs of shoes if this toe gets bigger? This time R had to believe it, the mutant toe was staring him in the face! I measured the growing wonder and it came in at 2", the big toe is at a steady 1" 3/4, yeah. So yes, mutant carnie toe grows due to x-ray exposure...now if only it would develop some cool super power!Notice how the second toe on the right foot is much longer than it's sister on the left foot, compare it to the 3rd toe. In this pic you can't really tell that it's longer than the big toe, but it is...it is!

Bunch of pictures

Beginning on Friday last and going up through yesterday.

This is the library branch I go to, I didn't realize they had that free standing mailbox!

What I paid for gas last Friday. You know what? I'd gladly give up my car if riding the bus were safer, cheaper, more reliable, cleaner, etc...

Windy Friday in San Francisco, hang on to your hat!

This is at the Ocean Beach Safeway facing North. The beach is, you guessed it West!

This is facing South, one of the San Francisco windmills, that works,
then doesn't, then does, then doesn't - right now it doesn't.

Sunday was spent on the deck. These are our neighbors locked out of their apartment. (At first we thought they were paying a visit to the folx living there)
The landlord finally came, we need to make friends with them.
We started with white...

...and ended with red.

Project clean closet - first stage: utter chaos!

This is what a "mission accomplished" really looks like!

Friday on My Mind

We had an invite to go to Bollywood Café (from one of R’s clients) last night but #1 I wasn’t feeling up to it and #2 R’s ride fell through at the last minute. Ack! Sorry, next time, and make it on a Saturday, please? Tomorrow is dinner with C&C and that should be fun, high tailing it downtown on the MUNI, and that’s going to be a long ride. I think a cab back will be the way to go since I think Little C may want to stay out late and do some major damage, ah, those twenty somethings, I tell ya!

Shouldn't this be Aloha Kitty?

Beautiful greenery at 6:30 in the morning

Tiger Girl

Rafael knows her. Her scooter is always parked in the same place and I dunno, it's sort of comforting to see it there almost everyday. Go Tiger Girl!

Another way of saying it...

In Spanish, United States = Estados Unidos.
In Spanish another way of saying we're f***d (as a country) is a play on Estados Unidos and it's:
Estamos Jodidos.
I love that! Let's learn Español together, what do you say Dora?

Harry Potter geek

Now I'm listening to the books on tape, it's in preparation for the trip to LA during the holidays, just wanted to see how they worked, uh yeah. Thankfully all of them, I think all of them, are available from the library - accio library card! See? Geeky, for shó! Thanks Wil Wheaton!

It would have so rocked if Alan Rickman were the narrator, just sayin'.

I love Wil's commentaries on the various and sundry VH-1 programs, the man is hilarious!

My other Blog is on Multiply

...and it's called San Francisco A.D. (almost daily).
It's San Francisco focussed and it's updated, you guessed it, almost daily!
